November 11th girl’s filmmaking workshop with Reaa Puri

Reaa Puri is an award-winning filmmaker, activist, and co-founder of Breaktide Productions, a women-of-color-owned production company. Reaa has won numerous international film awards from New York to China and London, and was selected as a Sundance New Voices Lab semifinalist.

Her original work frequently explores gender-based violence, accessibility and holistic wellness. Her photography has been featured in Vogue Magazine and various international publications. Previously, Reaa was a Vh1 showrunnerand a recipient of the Roselyn Schneider Eisner Prize for excellence in film. Reaa formerly led the video teams for digital publications including Wear Your VoiceCarbonated.TV, and Best San Francisco—a subdivision of Hearst Digital Media. She was also a cinematographer for mission-driven campaigns for Kaiser Permanente, the American Institute of Architects, Bright Pink, and assistant director on Mary Kom.

Reaa earned her bachelor’s degree in film from the University of California, Berkeley, and grew up between California, India, and Kuwait, which influenced her decision to intersect media with social justice.

This workshop will cover basic filmmaking techniques for both narrative and documentary film.
