ABOUT REEL STORIES: Reel Stories (RS) believes that when women & non-binary people are better represented behind the scenes in media, they will be better reflected on screen. RS is a non-profit organization that empowers young women and non-binary folks with the skills to create their own media, to view current media critically and thoughtfully, and to aspire to leadership in their field. In the RS programs, our attendees get to work in small, collaborative groups to write, shoot, edit, and broadcast their own short films. RS is the only female owned and run media program in the country led by professionals. Through summer programs and mid-year workshops, RS creates a unique, safe, and confidence-building space for young women and non-binary youth from diverse backgrounds to express themselves and embrace their individual point of view through media making. In an industry that is male dominated, RS paves the way towards gender parity in the media by building a supportive community among media professionals, the youth we serve, and their families.
